Ohio BWC Premium & True-Up Reminders

To maintain workers’ compensation coverage, employers must pay their premiums on time to the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC).

Throughout the policy year, employers make premium installment payments based on estimated payroll. As the 2025 policy year (July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026) comes to a close, BWC requires all employers to complete a payroll reconciliation, or “true-up,” comparing estimated payroll to actual payroll for the policy year.

Important Reminders

• BWC mailed 2026 estimated annual premium notices and installment schedules around May 1, 2026.

• If you anticipate a change in payroll during the 2026 rating year, contact BWC at 800-644-6292 to request an adjustment to your payroll estimate and installment schedule.

• Failure to make installment payments by the scheduled due dates can result in a lapse in coverage. The first installment payment is due in mid-to-late June 2026.

• Employers who pay their full 2026 premium by the June installment due date are eligible for a 2% Early Payment Discount. No change to an annual payment plan is required. BWC will issue the 2% refund the following month.

BWC is expected to mail true-up notices for the July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026 policy year around July 1, 2026. True-up reporting and any additional premium payment are due by August 31, 2026. There is no grace period.

• Failure to complete the true-up process and pay any additional premium due may result in removal from all BWC discount and rebate programs and could affect eligibility for future discounts and rebates.
